By the inner light.

A light therein strides unfettered by life,
it casts a shadow I once called "friend".

Somewhere in my memory
lies,
and lest trolls awake, I must find,
'neath his angst, an age old smile.

This once,
beyond his pride,
peril, dread
and strife,
his flesh drooped,

it slipped down from an inner light.

We are flesh, and
we are light,

this I can affirm
if I see

there cast for a while,

upon the shadows an age old smile.
